Clinical Social Worker, Outpatient Palliative Care Service

Greg Merrill, LCSW, is a clinical social worker with the Outpatient Palliative Care Service. With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Merrill has specializations in trauma-informed care, integrated behavioral health, cognitive behavioral therapy, and adjustment to injury, illness, and disability.

From 2005-2021, Merrill served as the Director of Field Education and Lecturer at the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare where he oversaw clinical practicum for 200 MSW students annually and taught practice methods courses including Direct Practice in Health Settings and Motivational Interviewing. He was twice voted teacher of the year.

Prior to teaching, Merrill was the Clinical Social Work supervisor at the UCSF Trauma Recovery and Rape Treatment Center at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and the Director of Client and Advocacy Services at Community United Against Violence.

Mr. Merrill’s father passed away from Parkinson’s disease and congestive heart failure in 2019, inspiring his passion for supporting patients and families as they live with complex and advanced illnesses.
