Congratulations to Sarah Nouri, MD, MPH who will serve as our inaugural Associate Division Chief for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In this leadership role Sarah will develop, implement, and administer initiatives, processes, procedures, and programs to promote and advance diversity, equity and inclusion across all missions and activities in the DPM.

As our Associate Chief for DEI, Sarah will provide leadership, consultation, advice, and support to change systems, structures, policies, and processes within the DPM to advance and promote DEI. She will facilitate dialogue and conversations about DEI and lead and advance strategies for institutional as well as individual responsibility and accountability in promoting DEI and preventing and combating bias and discrimination. Sarah will be collaborating with leaders in similar positions across UCSF including within Department of Medicine, other Departments, the School of Medicine, other Schools, other hospitals, and UCSF Health. She will work with all members of the DPM and lead the DPM Anti-Racism Task Force (ARTF).

Sarah is superbly qualified for this leadership role. She has been engaged in and committed to DEI personally and professionally throughout her life. She is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in academia, and to achieving equity in palliative and serious illness care for diverse populations in all aspects of her work. Sarah’s research is focused on understanding disparities in health communication and digital health across diverse populations, and on achieving equitable access to high quality advance care planning and palliative care.
